Styling Indian Wear with Shirts

Today’s Indian ethnic wear styling article slightly overlaps with my Lehenga Mix-Match Trend post, but with a lot more options for you. The pairing of shirts and tops with traditional Indian wear garments has been observed on the ramp in recent fashion weeks and on celebrities too. The choices are innumerable, be it your choice of shirt and top, or drape of the saree, or the choice of skirt underneath. I am sharing some fantastic visual references along with details on how to achieve the look. Keep reading!

I have often cited my love for multi-tasking garments in previous posts and it is one of the favorable feature of this Indian wear styling too. As seen in the picture above you can easily wear the same Ka-Sha empire line top with both a-line trousers and a saree. All you need is some imagination and a will to experiment. The saree has been draped in the basic ulta-palla style with a lower side fall, thereby accentuating the top’s pleated design. You can also drape the saree in thin seedha-palla pleats or do a neck wrap with the aanchal.

Hairstyles with Accessories – Indian Wedding Guests

Hi,

The wedding season is soon approaching! While we plan our outfits days in advance, the hair and makeup is often left till the last minute. I am personally not fond of spending thousands on professional makeup and hair for a friend or distant cousin’s wedding. My mantra is do-it-yourself. Few posts back I had listed makeup tutorials for the main wedding functions- mehendi, sangeet and wedding day, and today we will be talking about hairstyle using hair accessories.

There are five Indian wedding hairstyles using accessories listed below, along with product recommendation and a inspiration picture there are video tutorials for each. The inspiration and video tutorial are of different hairstyles thereby giving you more options to style each accessory.

First up is the most common Indian hair accessory- the maang-tika. You could choose between traditional polki encrusted maang-tikas to modern clear stone maang-tikas. As for styling you could choose between simple side part open hair style to loose waves middle part hair style as shown in the picture above. Kaushal teaches us a half up- half down hairdo with the maang-tika (watch the video from 6:36 for the hair tutorial).

Amrapali – Online Shopping Review

Hi,

Amrapali is my favorite Indian jewellery brand! I was super excited when Kolkata saw it’s first Amrapali showroom around 2011. Every few months I keep adding to my Amrapali earrings collection and this time I thought of trying their online shopping services.

Tribebyamrapali.com debuted in 2013 with their first online-exclusive collection along with their regular collections. Most people would be skeptical about buying jewellery online, especially silver and gold, but with over 35 years of existence Amrapali is a brand you can trust. And I can say that with a lot more conviction since my latest purchase.

About the brand :- Amrapali is a globally renowned, respected and coveted luxury jewellery brand based out of Jaipur. Their collections personify the heritage of India with a modern eclectic twist. The brand is renowned for it’s signature craftsmanship rooted in ancient aesthetics with modern interpretation of the same. You could read more about it here.

Trousseau Makeup Essentials (Part 2)

In continuation with my last post , Trousseau Makeup Essentials, following are rest of the makeup essentials for Indian Brides.

 LIP COLOURS

  1. RED LIPSTICK – There is a shade of red for everyone. Even though I don’t wear a red lip often, there are times when a red lip is all I need to make an ensemble pop. Try as many shades of red till you feel comfortable and confident in a particular shade. Check my post on lip colour basics for more information on application and makeup looks.
Recommended: M.A.C Ruby Woolip colours trousseau makeup
  2. PINK/CORAL LIPSTICK – Depending on your skin-tone and the makeup look you are going for pick atleast two lipstick shades either from pink, coral or berry colour family. If you don’t plan to use them often go for budget brands. Make sure one shade is a matte and the other a gloss, along with colour variation you get texture variation.
    Recommended: Colorbar Rose Clair
  3. NUDE LIPSTICK – By nude I mean a shade which is ‘your lips but better’. A total nude would wash out most people and looks best with dramatic eye makeup, since this is a list for beginners I would not suggest a total nude. You could either go in for a nude pink or a nude maroon. This would be your go-to lipstick for everyday wear and for formal occasions.
Recommended: Lakme 9 to 5 Peach Path / Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balmlip products trousseau makeup
  4. LIP GLOSS – Most lip glosses look the same eventually, so just having one lip gloss in your makeup trousseau would do the trick. Pick a gloss with less pigment and nearest to the colour family you love best.
    Recommended: Faces Lip Creme Cosmopolitan
  5. LIP LINER – Optional. A lip liner is great shaping or as a base. This is completely optional fro beginners and if you do want a lip liner select a shade nearest to your natural lip colour. Pick a lip liner from a good brand as they have better staying power than most budget brands.
Recommended: Maybelline Lip Liner Velvet Beige
