Wardrobe Essentials – Part 5

A piece of jewellery can make or break your outfit. Today I will be talking about fashion jewellery essentials. Fashion jewellery does not have to be cheap looking, brands like Forever New make quality products in medium price ranges. When building your jewellery collection try to purchase items in similar metallic tones (gold, silver or bronze), it helps layer and mix-match the sets. Do keep at-least one piece of accessory in the other colour family too.

Earrings are the go-to accessory. Studs are the most common style. You get a variety of options in it, pick a set of studs with a few style options in it. These can be even be worn to college or office. If you like bigger earrings you could even pick fancier studs in basic colours of no more than three-quarter of an inch big. You should also have a pair of dressy earrings. These drop earring will ease your transition from work to social meets. Pick one neutral earring like these silver colour base stone style and with time purchasethe colourful ones depending on your wardrobe.

Necklaces are an easy way to add elegance to your outfit. There are various styles available making it hard to choose. Start with buying a lightweight neckpiece that goes well with both formal shirts and casual tops. You could go for a single small pendant necklace or a dainty layered style necklace. The second style to have in your accessories case is a set of classic lady-like pearls. This adds instant elan to your ensemble. The two piece set of pearl and diamante neckpiece from Forever New can be worn together or separately , giving you more value for money as well as styling options.

Wardrobe Essentials – Part 4

Accessories are an integral part of the wardrobe. I have discussed the essential pieces of clothing in my previous Wardrobe Essentials posts and will be listing the necessary accessories in part 4 & part 5 of the series. I would like to start with the larger sized accessories, i.e. bags, shoes and belt.

The three classic bag styles- tote, handbag and clutch are a necessity. The tote is an all time favourite for runs to the departmental store and even casual meets at your favourite coffee place. The low priced canvas totes can be found in various colours and prints. The most important of these three styles is the handbag. Most of us require a medium to large bag for everyday use to carry our wallets, keys, stationery, makeup kit, et al. This hobo shaped black bag is perfect for it. Pick your regular handbag in either black, tan or nude beige as these look good with most outfit colours. Invest in your everyday bag- it’s better to buy a quality product than having to change it every few weeks of use. After your casual and official bag the third style requirement is of an occasion bag. This black clutch solves a dual purpose, you could use it as a clutch or attach the gold chain and swing it cross-body. The gold plates at the side seam add to it’s face value. First cover your basic needs and then you could purchase multiple styles in either category depending on your usage.

Tote: Forever 21 (Rs.239) Handbag: Mango (Rs.1990) Clutch: New Look (Rs.1295)

Wardrobe Essentials – Part 3

In today’s edition of wardrobe essentials I will be discussing a few occasional wear clothes along with the pieces of clothing helpful in creating looks apart from the usual denim and top combinations. The following are indicative of pieces you need and you should purchase designs in each category which suit your body type and you are comfortable in. I would suggest trying out a few styles in a physical store and then purchasing it online once you are sure of which cuts you like.

11A soft outerwear like a knitted shrug or woven waterfall lapel jacket is a must in the wardrobe. These can easily change the look of your ensemble and are good for the breezy evening too. Pick a style that is also easier for you to carry around on work days too.

Wardrobe Essentials – Part 2

In continuation with last week’s wardrobe essential post, today I will be discussing the important tops and shirts to have in your cupboard. These are the fourteen basic styles and you could create various looks using them. I have suggested a product for each style and you could even buy something similar in your price point. Styling inspirations are given at the end of the post. Enjoy.

This is the most basic top style you will need. You could buy block coloured tees in various colours as per your choice. A heathered texture adds an additional element to the basic tee dressing it up a little. Go for a fitted or semi-fitted silhouette.

The printed t-shirt is an universal favourite. You could wear them for a lazy evening in, to go shopping or even a casual brunch outing. There are tons of styles and brands to choose from. You could purchase a mid to lower priced product because we tend to get bored of them easily. Wardrobe Essentials – Part 1

I will be doing a five part series on wardrobe essentials. These are evergreen clothing items that can be the base to create various looks. Along with product suggestion I will be posting 3 styling options in each post. This series will help build your basics in western clothing along with classic and experimental looks. Enjoy.

The first part of the series states the five bare minimum items you require to build your wardrobe on.

The most essential item of clothing. You could buy a light or a deep shade of blue jeans but keep the wash and styling to a minimum. The most important factor to keep in mind is the FIT, go for a slim or straight fit depending on your body shape. Most of you already own a favourite pair of denims.

Buy: United Colors of Benetton (Rs.1500)

A black semi formal trouser is the base for many work outfits and can easily be paired down for a casual look. Go for a mid-rise narrow fit trouser reaching just below your ankle. In the adjoining the picture the Mango trousers look short on the model but it is originally 40.5 inches in length which would reach just below the ankle on an average height girl, while picking a semi formal trouser be sure of the length because a short trouser will take away from the formal look.

Buy: Mango (Rs.1790)

A white button down shirt with narrow semi-spread collar is a classic. You could buy a fitted with concealed placket shirt like this Mango shirt or go for a standard placket with a slightly looser fit. Buy a comfort fit shirt and not too tight beacuse pulls at the chest or waist draws attention to your problem areas and takes away from the clean look.

Buy: Mango (Rs.1790)
