Summer 2015 Runway Inspired Makeup

I wanted to play around with new makeup looks and what better inspiration than the runway! Taking inspiration from Spring/Summer 2015 shows, because we are still in the middle of summer, I have listed 5 trending day time looks. The two top makeup trends for summer is the natural look and the strong pout. The natural makeup look this season is more dewy combined with warm neutral lips and mascara laden eyelashes. On the other hand choose vibrant reds and bright berry lip colours to achieve the strong pout.

The Versace summer makeup was a unfussy natural look. The face makeup has a strong contour and highlight play. Neutral eyes with tear duct highlight and loads of mascara forms the eye makeup. Karima’s video though a sick to schmic tutorial covers the steps to achieve Versace’s summer look. She uses cooler matt shades for the eyelid but you should use champagne eyeshadow for a more baby doll Versace look.

The makeup at Topshop Unique was a combination of even luminous skin, shimmer eyelids and blurred strong lips. You could use an eye colour ranging between rose gold to iced mocha depending on your skin tone. For the lips pick a cool undertone red lip colour and add gloss over it. There is no hard contouring on the face, instead go for soft warm blushes.  Lisa Eldridge’s video on Korean beauty trend is not an exact runway look but shows the products you can use to achieve the dewy look and steps to achieve the rest of the face.

Lisa Eldridge is the official campaign makeup artist for Gucci and she recreates a wearable version of the look. The sun-kissed look consists of a strong base makeup with contouring, brown eye pencil and matt nude lip colour. This is an easy, wearable everyday makeup look. The highlighter and nude lip colour shade is dependent on your skin tone.

Vivianna’s video is an exact step-by-step tutorial to achieve Burberry’s summer makeup look. Soft contouring, almost bare eyes and ruby lips form this look. The base makeup is primary in achieving the fresh face. The detailed video tutorial leaves very little else to say. You could see this video by Wendy for an overall follow through.

Dolce & Gabbana’s spring look is very similar to their fall 2014 look. The use of berry tones for spring comes as a surprise to most but this makeup works well for formal outings or evening events, even during summer months. The look includes contouring, feline flick eyeliner, neutral eye shadow and berry lips. Kayla Marie’s video is an easy talk through the various steps to achieve the look. The main difference in use of product type is for the eyes, Kayla uses powder liner whereas liquid liner was used for the show. You should check this video for a quick peek backstage.

There is no one procedure the makeup artist uses for all models. Depending on the model’s facial features they tweak the steps to achieve similar looks. The key to achieving the summer looks is good skin care. If you have better skin the lesser products you have to apply to even it out.

Keep experimenting and have fun! 🙂
