Hairstyles with Accessories – Indian Wedding Guests

The wedding season is soon approaching! While we plan our outfits days in advance, the hair and makeup is often left till the last minute. I am personally not fond of spending thousands on professional makeup and hair for a friend or distant cousin’s wedding. My mantra is do-it-yourself. Few posts back I had listed makeup tutorials for the main wedding functions- mehendi, sangeet and wedding day, and today we will be talking about hairstyle using hair accessories.

There are five Indian wedding hairstyles using accessories listed below, along with product recommendation and a inspiration picture there are video tutorials for each. The inspiration and video tutorial are of different hairstyles thereby giving you more options to style each accessory.

First up is the most common Indian hair accessory- the maang-tika. You could choose between traditional polki encrusted maang-tikas to modern clear stone maang-tikas. As for styling you could choose between simple side part open hair style to loose waves middle part hair style as shown in the picture above. Kaushal teaches us a half up- half down hairdo with the maang-tika (watch the video from 6:36 for the hair tutorial).

Headchains are the most popular hair accessory presently. They come in a variety of styles from simple chained ones to jewelled styles like the Koovs headchain. Go for a textured fishtail braid if you have longer hair, like the picture above, or for a more fun style go for the beach waves hair-do as shown by Sophia in the video. You should also check my post on Hair Curls and Waves for heat-less options to achieve loose waves.

The hairband with an Indian outfit is not a common sight, but with the inspirations here I can imagine myself sporting it this season. I love the messy updo in the picture above, it is a variation of the third hairstyle show in the video. In the video you can learn three hairstyles using the hairband and each is suitable for different functions depending on formality of the event.

I used to constantly fail with the hair comb, but after trying the styles shown in the video I have managed to make the styles last. Use a bejeweled comb for up-dos and free falling Indian wedding hairstyles. Even though the video quality is not great, the styles shown are awesome. If you have very fine hair- use a texturing hair serum/spray before the styling and follow the style with a spritz of hair spray.

Bobby pins were once considered a kid’s accessory but with the embellished designs available they are used by women of all age. In the inspiration picture above, she has braided and twisted her hair. My suggestion is to first hold the braids with a basic black bobby pin for extra stay and then add the embellished pins. Kayley has used bigger embellished pins for her three hairstyles, you could do the same styles with the smaller embellishments too.

Hope you soon try these Indian wedding hairstyles. Leave me a comment on what other hair tutorials would you like to see. Have fun! 🙂
