In the past few weeks, over various weddings, I have realised how difficult a wedding gift can be. Various questions arise while deciding on it – What to gift? How much to spend? Should I gift the couple or just my friend? Should I gift individually or in a group? Will he/she like it? Some questions are situation based and have to be answered by you, but for some there are answers I can help with. If you decide upon just gifting the bride following is my list of some classic favourites.
Note: I have compiled products from three price range options for each category: (A) Under Rs.2000 (B) Rs.2000-Rs.5000 (C) Rs.5000-Rs.10000
1. FOR THE JEWELLERY LOVER:
Jewellery gifting in India is quiet common among relatives but for a friend this might get tricky especially with the pricing. There are many reliable brands like Amrapali and Tanishq that make jewellery in lower price ranges too. Amrapali has a huge range of silver jewelry and silver jewellery coated with gold with prices starting from as low as Rs.1000 for a pair of basic earrings. Swarovski jewellery makes a good gifting option especially for brides who will be wearing more western wear after marriage, based on the fact that white jewelry usually does not match with Indian ethnic wear. You could check the brand stores in your city for more design options.
2.FOR THE BEAUTY ADDICT:
Many girls love their makeup and makeup accessories, for any such bride you could choose between body and hair care sets, makeup palettes, makeup tools or makeup cases. Victoria’s Secret, Lancome and DKNY are all well appreciated brands. Victoria’s Secret has gift sets starting from Rs.1750 but for a lower price range you could choose from departmental brands available. Choose a set with pretty packaging and the note value of the gift increases. If you plan to gift a makeup palette keep in mind the gift receiver’s comfort zone and do not go to out of the box with the colours. This DKNY makeup case spells Luxury. If your favor a particular high street brand check with them too, as most brands keep makeup and vanity case sets.
3. FOR THE FASHIONISTA:
For the fashion loving bride there are many options to choose from- stoles, shawls, salwar suits, sarees, jackets, handbags and more. Fabindia’s quality is good and they have a wide range of stoles to choose from, for a more indulgent gift you could buy from high-end designers like Tarun Tahiliani whose stoles start at Rs.10000. Same goes for other clothing items, buy Indianwear from price friendly brands like Biba and W or go for a designer purchase. An embroidered handbag in neutral colour is a useful gift since a bride will be pairing it with all her Indianwear outfits. A high street branded bag like this DKNY cross body is also a good option because the bride will be able to use it with her western outfits too.
4. FOR THE HOSTESS:
Choose from varied options for a bride-to-be who loves entertaining guests. You could select between something as simple as a photo frame or as complicated as customised sets. A photo frame is a universal gift for most occasions but for a bridal gift try to pick one with gold accents and mature designs. You could even gift a digital photo frame or a pricey silver photo frame, it all depends on your budget. A hostess will appreciate an exquisite platter set like the one paired from Good Earth and will even show-off the pretty table linen. Whichever brand and price range you choose for the crockery or table linen make sure to buy a resplendent print range. You could even gift bedding sets, pick something from the Bombay Dyeing by Anita Dongre range for their interesting print combinations.
5. FOR THE QUIRKY SOUL:
If the bride-to-be is someone who stands out in they crowd for her special choices then select from these options. A coffee-table book might seem a bit off-beat for a wedding gift but this is the time to indulge her , gift a book according to her interests and hobbies. There are a number of interesting books to choose from in various price ranges. For a quirky dresser choose off-beat jewellery like this head-gear and for an interior person choose quirky furniture like this container style cabinet. While choosing furniture for gifting it is advisable to either keep the bride or groom in the loop so that they keep space for it in their new abode.
You could gift the above mentioned products or use this post as a guide for your purchase. The online shopping world does not provide all the brands and often not complete collections, so you could visit the brick and mortar stores for more. I have only mentioned the products that you could order online.
Most importantly shower the bride with your love and best wishes. 🙂
