Last week I did a ‘Makeup Looks for Sangeet‘ post and in continuation I will be listing 5 of my current favorite makeup looks for the wedding function. I have included looks ranging from subtle to bold, choose and customize according to your ensemble and personal style.
1. ROSE GOLD EYE WITH MAGENTA LIPS
Arshia’s rose gold eye makeup is quick to do, with the added bonus of all products being available in India. You could pair this look with flowy ensembles in pink, yellow, peach, white or gold tones.
A piece of jewellery can make or break your outfit. Today I will be talking about fashion jewellery essentials. Fashion jewellery does not have to be cheap looking, brands like Forever New make quality products in medium price ranges. When building your jewellery collection try to purchase items in similar metallic tones (gold, silver or bronze), it helps layer and mix-match the sets. Do keep at-least one piece of accessory in the other colour family too.
Earrings are the go-to accessory. Studs are the most common style. You get a variety of options in it, pick a set of studs with a few style options in it. These can be even be worn to college or office. If you like bigger earrings you could even pick fancier studs in basic colours of no more than three-quarter of an inch big. You should also have a pair of dressy earrings. These drop earring will ease your transition from work to social meets. Pick one neutral earring like these silver colour base stone style and with time purchasethe colourful ones depending on your wardrobe.
Necklaces are an easy way to add elegance to your outfit. There are various styles available making it hard to choose. Start with buying a lightweight neckpiece that goes well with both formal shirts and casual tops. You could go for a single small pendant necklace or a dainty layered style necklace. The second style to have in your accessories case is a set of classic lady-like pearls. This adds instant elan to your ensemble. The two piece set of pearl and diamante neckpiece from Forever New can be worn together or separately , giving you more value for money as well as styling options.
In continuance with my ‘Makeup Looks for Mehendi‘ post, today I have listed 5 of my favorite makeup looks for the Indian sangeet or cocktail function. These events require a more dramtaic makeup, especially if your are doing a staged performance. You could also go for a striking look if it is just a cocktail party.
1. CLASSIC GOLD EYE WITH RED LIPS
Kaushal’s classic gold eye look is easy to achieve. You could wear any light to medium shade lip colour with the gold eyes. You can pair this look with most Indian clothes with touches of gold in it.
Accessories are an integral part of the wardrobe. I have discussed the essential pieces of clothing in my previous Wardrobe Essentials posts and will be listing the necessary accessories in part 4 & part 5 of the series. I would like to start with the larger sized accessories, i.e. bags, shoes and belt.
The three classic bag styles- tote, handbag and clutch are a necessity. The tote is an all time favourite for runs to the departmental store and even casual meets at your favourite coffee place. The low priced canvas totes can be found in various colours and prints. The most important of these three styles is the handbag. Most of us require a medium to large bag for everyday use to carry our wallets, keys, stationery, makeup kit, et al. This hobo shaped black bag is perfect for it. Pick your regular handbag in either black, tan or nude beige as these look good with most outfit colours. Invest in your everyday bag- it’s better to buy a quality product than having to change it every few weeks of use. After your casual and official bag the third style requirement is of an occasion bag. This black clutch solves a dual purpose, you could use it as a clutch or attach the gold chain and swing it cross-body. The gold plates at the side seam add to it’s face value. First cover your basic needs and then you could purchase multiple styles in either category depending on your usage.
A close friend of mine recently got engaged and we began our long conversations about wedding planning. One of our favorite topics of discussion is the trousseau, from bridal to casual outfits. Having experienced the nightmare of planning a trousseau during a few other close weddings I decided to make a checklist and discuss a few pointers. I believe in being organised in life especially for big events like a wedding, so the original list was too detailed but I cut it down to cover the broader categories. Hope this list helps you plan and budget your ‘Big Fat Indian Wedding’ trousseau.
Once the wedding date, number of functions and the venues have been decided start by segregating the total budget for the trousseau. Next, decide on what kind of ensemble you need foreach event and their individual budgets. At this stage also dedicate a part of the budget towards beauty and other services. A bride these days carries a mix of Indianwear and westernwear outfits, determine the number for each category. The fashion jewellery, accessories and makeup products are easily found in various price points and can be adjusted within the remaining budget.
Indian weddings as most of you know are spread out and have various functions involved. The three main being the mehendi, the sangeet or cocktail and the wedding. Attending the wedding festivities requires an assortment of ensembles and looks. After deciding on the event outfit I find it difficult to decide on the makeup look, especially last-minute and end up doing the same style very often. Thus I have researched to find some very interesting makeup looks for each event.
Today I will be listing 5 of my favorite makeup looks for the mehendi function and in the following beauty posts I will cover the other wedding events. I have also mentioned the ensemble colours you can pair the looks with. Go ahead and have fun.
1. SMUDGED BLUE EYELINER WITH BRIGHT LIPS
Indian makeup artist Elton J Fernandez’s mehendi look is as pretty and simple as it gets. The bright lips with simple eyes looks good on almost everybody. You can pair this look with the pink, brighter yellows or white ensembles.
