Amrapali is my favorite Indian jewellery brand! I was super excited when Kolkata saw it’s first Amrapali showroom around 2011. Every few months I keep adding to my Amrapali earrings collection and this time I thought of trying their online shopping services.
Tribebyamrapali.com debuted in 2013 with their first online-exclusive collection along with their regular collections. Most people would be skeptical about buying jewellery online, especially silver and gold, but with over 35 years of existence Amrapali is a brand you can trust. And I can say that with a lot more conviction since my latest purchase.
About the brand :- Amrapali is a globally renowned, respected and coveted luxury jewellery brand based out of Jaipur. Their collections personify the heritage of India with a modern eclectic twist. The brand is renowned for it’s signature craftsmanship rooted in ancient aesthetics with modern interpretation of the same. You could read more about it here.
Website design :- Their shopping website is comparatively easy to manoeuvre. The four main menu options being- New Arrivals, Collections, Celeb Style and Gift Cards. Under new-arrivals you can select various categories (collections), product type (earrings, bracelets, etc) and color. You could further arrange the designs based on price – low-to-high or high-to-low. Similar choices are available under collections and it’s sub-selections. Under celeb style you can see various celebrities wearing Amrapali jewels and a direct link to the item worn, this page could do with some improvements in layout to make more designs visible at one go. The last menu option is gift cards, please note that these gift cards can only be redeemed for online purchases.
I would suggest you check all the menu options individually for a better preview of all collections. You might take one-two tries before getting a hang of the options.
Order Placement :- The product pages have detailed information about the material, jewellery type (enamel, etc.), fastening and finish. One important information you should always check is the dimensions. I had not checked the dimensions before ordering a hand-jewel in my other order and was disheartened to realize it looked smaller on my hands than the model picture. Once I carefully went through the product page again I realized had I read the dimensions I would have been prepared for the actual product size.
In terms of pricing you can find anything silver jewellery priced between Rs.350 to above Rs.50000, and gold jewellery priced between Rs.6500 to above Rs.1,50,000. Personally I find the pricing appropriate for the quality and designs provided. Also Amrapali’s service is excellent, even though you cannot exchange the designs in a retail store you could use their repair services provided you bring along the bill.
Shipping :- After selecting the items proceed to checkout where a CST of 5% (Central State Tax) and shipping charges of flat Rs.200 for delivery within India is added. All orders above Rs.5000 come with free shipping. Amrapali ships to over 220 countries worldwide, for international shipping rates check here. The FAQ page answers all common questions a customer might have and is very detailed.
The order was shipped within 2 days of order placement and I received it on the 5th day from order placement. I had placed a cash-on-delivery order, which was collected without any additional charges. All shipments are traceable through their website and docket number.
Packaging :- The products were wrapped in individual clear plastic pouches and placed inside fabric bags. The fabric bags were then placed between two layers of foam wrapped with white butter paper. All of this was placed inside the thick cardboard box with the brand’s logo print. The outer-most layer of packaging was a thick clear weather proof plastic with the bill in a plastic pouch, a COD sticker and a courier label on top. The packaging was sturdy and with multiple layers they protected the delicate jewellery pieces certainly well. The only minor problem I found in the packaging was that one of the plastic pouches containing the earrings had slipped out of the fabric pouch into the cardboard box, they should have probably tied the fabric pouches.
Product Care :- The package included a note card mentioning who had packed the item and a card with care instructions. Do read and follow the care instructions to maintain longevity of the jewellery pieces. Each earring came in a separate plastic pouch which was then bubble-wrapped and placed inside the pouch. A few years ago I had learnt from Amrapali staff that it’s best to store a pair of earrings in an individual pouch for each piece, to prevent scratch marks from friction. Also the plastic pouches helped protect the pieces from humidity.
Overall I am totally satisfied with the online purchase and would repeat it again if I liked an online exclusive design or designs that are not available in my city. Just be careful about the product dimensions and choice because tribebyamrapali.com has very strict refund and exchange policies, apart from that you could easily contact them via email or call for other queries.
Go ahead and shop your heart out! 🙂
